June 7-14, 2011: Scottish, Civil War, Renaissance, Car, and Dragon Boat Fests, Boston Pride Week, the Scooper Bowl, and Model Rockets!

Yo! Last Saturday, June 4th at 10pm there were fireworks I assume over The Charles. Does anyone know what that was? I should be writing about it in 2012.

This is the first week of 2011 where I really could not choose what to go in the “summary”. You REALLY need to click through and see all the other stuff happening. I hope you are having an awesome week. Now get out there and do something fun!

Sun 6/12Boston MetroBoston Dragon Boat Festival
Boston Events INSIDER, by Johnny Monsarrat
What’s better than the Head of the Charles? Dragon boat races! But wait! That’s not all. The festival along the Charles River also comes with a lion dance, martial arts demonstrations, Japanese drumming, live music, and Chinese yo-yo. So it’s a real festival, not simply a boat race. 12- 5 PM.

Sat 6/11Rhode IslandRhode Island Highland Scottish Festival
Boston Events INSIDER, by Johnny Monsarrat
Going even further back in time, you’d have to be crazy not to go to this Scottish festival. There will be dancing, music, booths for all the clans, the Society for Creative Anachronism, competitions of all sorts and wacky sports like a haggis hurl. (I really hope that’s hurl as in throw and not hurl as in vomit.) Definitely worth the trip to RI.
Washington County Fairgrounds, Richmond Townhouse Rd., Richmond, RI.401-596-5849.

The Scooper Bowl continues! You pay $8 for charity, and it’s all-you-can-eat ice cream from the best vendors. I went once and ate so much ice cream I nearly hurt myself. It’s the biggest event of its type in the world. Yum! 12-8pm daily.

You have to go to Provincetown for CARNIVAL but Pride Week in Boston gets going with a parade at 12 PM that ends at City Hall Plaza, where there’s a huge festival with vendors, live music, family-friendly stuff, and (new this year) a Celebrity Lounge where you can kick back with a cocktail.
