Johnny's SummaryWelcome to the 2012 Salem Arts Festival!
June 1 – 3, 2012
For three days each summer, this free festival transforms downtown Salem into an opportunity for the arts community to showcase their talents. Now in its fourth year, the festival boasts attendance numbers of 4,000. It celebrates all the arts: painting, photography, sculpture, dance, music, writing, film, new media, performance, theatre, poetry, culinary, etc. in a free city-wide arts festival.
The 2012 festival will consist of:
a gallery of juried artists’ work in Old Town Hall
an outdoor stage venue for performance and dance at the East India Fountain
an indoor performance space in Old Town Hall
a juried street fair on Essex Street Pedestrian Mall and Derby Square
The preliminary festival schedule can be found here. Rain location for the performances is upstairs Old Town Hall.
The Salem Arts Festival is organized by Salem Main Streets and a collaboration of Salem organizations which provide support and jurors for the festival, including the Salem Arts Association, Salem State University and the Peabody Essex Museum.
Last year’s festival was attended by over 4,000 residents and visitors, involved over 80 artists, a juried art show, outdoor performance at the East India Square Stage, interactive art presentations, and artists located in 20 downtown businesses. People of all ages and backgrounds enjoyed viewing art, participating in art making and purchasing art.
This year’s festival will also coincide with the launch of the “Lady of Salem” Project, a unique public maritime-arts festival.
We are currently looking for volunteers to help with the organizing of the 2012 festival. If you are interested contact Salem Main Streets Manager, Jennifer Bell at jennifer@salemmainstreets.org or (978)744-0004 x15.
Thank you,
The Salem Arts Festival Committee
