Lynn Civil War Sesquicentennial Events - Boston Events INSIDER

Lynn Civil War Sesquicentennial Events at Boston Events INSIDER Johnny's Summary
Death match! Who will win in the Roman arena? Lincoln or Douglass? No, not Stephen Douglas, the former presidential candidate, but Frederick Douglass, the freed slave, author, and abolitionist. Maybe they won't really fight, but they'll have dinner and Civil War music. So that's good. Maybe they'll fight vampires together. - . Lynn Masonic Lodge, 68 Market St, Lynn, MA . The Lynn 150th Civil War Committee

invites you to dine with

Frederick A. Douglass and Abraham Lincoln

On Friday, June 1st at 7:30 p.m.

At the Lynn Masonic Lodge

68 Market Street, Lynn, MA 01901

The banquet is being held to celebrate a week-long series of events taking place in the city of Lynn, from May 29th through June 3rd, 2012 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War and the service and sacrifices of the soldiers and sailors of Lynn. Our special guests of honor will be Michael Crutcher, Jr. and James Getty. Playing Civil War-era music will be award-winning musician Bob Kilham.

Michael Crutcher, Jr. is a Frederick Douglass scholar and actor. He is a former assistant professor at University of Kentucky’s Lexington Community College, and has been in several television commercials and training videos. He was a stand-in actor in the movie “Seabiscuit” and can be seen in the movie “Dreamer”, with actors Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell. He will be portraying Frederick Douglas in a series of events during the week of commemoration. Mr. Douglass lived in Lynn for several years, and made many important orations at the city’s Common.

James Getty, ""America's foremost Lincoln portrayer"", will be flying in from Gettysburg, PA for the commemoration events. He has portrayed Abraham Lincoln in Gettysburg since 1978, and has also been featured on television, and in special appearances throughout North America. His voice is that of the President in “Abraham Lincoln: A Biography”, (A&E) “The Assassination of President Lincoln”, (A&E) and at the “With Liberty and Justice for All” exhibit at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI. He portrays President Lincoln in the Turner network film, “The Ironclads”, narrates the President in Aaron Copland’s “Lincoln Portrait” with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. Those of you who have yet to make it to Gettysburg for Remembrance Day will be astonished to hear Mr. Getty act and speak in the guise of President Lincoln.

The “family style” dinner will feature salad, roast pork, roasted potatoes and a vegetable, as well as coffee and punch. Tickets to this one-of-a-kind event are $12.00 per person, and must be purchased before May 25th, 2012. Reserve early as seating is limited. Don't miss this!
