Formed in 1995, the CHAMPLAIN VALLEY HISTORICAL REENACTORS is a non-profit living history organization dedicated to the authentic portrayal of life and people from various time periods. Although most of us concentrate on Vermonters during the American Civil War, members have created military and civilian impressions from the early colonial period, the French and Indian War, the American Revolution, the antebellum era, both Confederate and Union during the American Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I and II. We are proud of our history and welcome opportunities to educate the public about our past.
As we observe the 150-year Sesquicentennial of the Civil War we invite all interested individuals as well as families to join us.
*During the Civil War, Vermont gave more lives in proportion to the number of soldiers and population than any other state in the union. General Sedgewick's order to the Vermont Brigade during the Union Army VI Corps grueling march to Gettysburg in late June of 1863, ""Put the Vermonters ahead and keep the column well closed up,"" best describes the effort and support provided by Vermont during the rebellion. Vermont's participation in the battles of Gettysburg, Wilderness, and Cedar Creek were especially significant.
