The Paradox of Self-Deception, or ""I cheated myself like I knew I would""

03/08/12, 1 - 2:30pm

McDermott Conference Room, 1st floor 41 Temple St

This will be an informal discussion of the intuitively familiar yet mysterious phenomenon of self-deception with Genia Cherkasova. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy states: ""virtually every aspect of the current philosophical discussion of self-deception is a matter of controversy including its definition and paradigmatic cases."" For more information or to access a reading (Sartre's ""Bad Faith"") in preparation for the discussion, please click here. The 3rd event in the Spring 2012 Philosophy Colloquium Series.
