Camp Sunshine is pleased to announce the 2012 Auldwood Polar Dip. We believe that together we can send many more children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to our one-of-a-kind retreat in Maine.

With the strength of an event such as the Auldwood Polar Dip and the resources of Camp Sunshine, it is our goal to raise in excess of $10,000 in 2012. That is enough to send 5 families from Connecticut to Camp Sunshine.

The Auldwood Polar Dip started back in 2009. ""To be honest, we first organized the plunge because it sounded like something fun to do with our close knit group of friends in Stamford"" said Kristyn O'Brien, Co-creatoer of the Auldwood Polar Dip. ""So our first year started with 10 plungers. We then decided that if we were going to jump into the freezing Long Island Sound water, we may as well raise money for a good cuase! In 2010, 30 people plunged and we raised funds for the CJ Sweeney Fund, who in 2011 connected us with Camp Sunshine"".

Who is C.J. Sweeney? To everyone who knew him, lifelong Stamford resident C.J. Sweeney was a fighter, eager to show the world that he had abilities beyond disabilities. Until his death from leukemia on December 2, 2007, 14-year-old C.J. didnít let anything stop him from achieving his goals, whether overcoming the incredible odds of his premature birth at 33 weeks or taking on the everyday challenges of living with Down syndrome with a smile on his face and a song in his heart.

Why a Connecticut based event for a camp in Maine? Since the start of Camp Sunshine in 1984, we have provided a haven for more than 35,000 family members from 48 states and 22 countries. In fact, in 2010 alone, 39 Connecticut families have participated in our program. Sadly, even with multiple sessions being added annually at Camp Sunshine, there are still many more children from Connecticut being newly diagnosed each year.

Our program continues to be recommended by the following Connecticut treatment centers: Connecticut Children's Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center, and Yale-New Haven Childrenís Hospital.
