Event details
O Yea! O Yea!
In the depths of Winter gather all for a day of Fencing, Food, and Fun. Their Majesties' champions of the arts of defense will be chosen on this day. St. Mauritz is the patron of swordsmiths as well as dyers and weavers, so all who practice or support the arts of defense and the gentler arts are encouraged to come share the day!
The following activities will highlight the day:
- The Main Tournament
- A youth fencing tournament
- An A&S display
- Two focused A&S competitions
- Eating!
The main tournament sign up will be closed by 10:15 so that the tournament will START by 10:30. Get here early!!!
The Tournament will consist of 1) a Qualifying Round, followed by 2) a Sweet 16 double elimination Round, followed by 3) the Finals.
Round 1
Standard Round robin consisting of roughly 8 pools (depending on attendance) 16 people will advance to round two.(top 2 from each pool assuming 8 pools)
Anyone authorized to fence will be eligible to enter this phase of the day.
Round 2
The Sweet 16 will only be open to those willing/able to perform the duties of Champion. If you are unwilling/able to do so we ask that you inform the MoL BEFORE the beginning of this round.
This round will consist of a double elimination tournament where each pairing will fight the best two out of three rotating forms between the following forms: Single, Offensive (case or dagger), or Defensive (rigid or non-rigid) A quick coin toss of the Marshal will determine who get the initial choice of form. Second choice goes to the other fencer. To limit questions and to be precise, If fencer A chooses Offensive and comes out dagger Fencer B MAY come out Case as it is also in the Offensive category. Each form may only be chosen once per pairing.
Round 3 Finals
The Finals will be determined on the day based on time and whims of the crown but essentially will be a multi-pass, non-matching, weapons rotation set up. Likely best of 5 or 7.
The youth fencing tournament will begin at 10am and run until the final 16 adult combatants are determined. The youth tournament will likely be run as a bear pit style, depending on the number of youth in attendance. Exhibition bouts will then be fought in the main arena between rounds 1 and 2 of the main tournament. Afterwards, all are encouraged to watch and learn from our Kingdom's finest fencers. If you have not authorized by the event, be sure to be there promptly at 10am.
Bring any items you wish to share for the A&S display. Items prepared for A&S 50 are especially encouraged and will have a special place, but all artisans are encouraged to bring their items. Kind experienced artisans will be on hand to help you prepare your item and/or documentation for competition if you so desire; this is a great opportunity to test the waters and receive gentle feedback.
The A&S competitions will have the following foci (see above about St. Mauritz being the patron of swordsmiths as well as dyers and weavers): Objects made of metal (or in which metal is the main component) and Objects in which dyeing and/or weaving is the main item of skill.
A sumptuous dayboard is included with the event fee. There will not be a feast after court so that gentles near and far can travel the dark winter roads safely, but we promise you will not leave hungry!
