A portrait of MumbetThe Village is open on this Monday holiday for visitors to experience everyday life in an early New England town in winter, and to pay tribute to the 20th-century civil rights leader by presenting characterizations of 19th-century individuals with New England ties who played significant roles in the 19th-century movement to abolish slavery.

Tammy Denease as MumbetJoin storyteller and historian Tammy Denease as she presents ""Honoring a Slave Heroine: The Mumbet Story."" Denease portrays Elizabeth ""Mumbet"" Freeman, a young Massachuetts slave woman who won her freedom in court in 1781. Her landmark case led to the end of slavery in the entire state of Massachusetts.
