Governor Sprague Mansion Living History Event	Rhode Island Sat 9/3 - Sun 9/4
It's the 150th anniversary of the civil war, and there's a fancy word for that, and thus even more re-enactments than ever. This one is an "encampment" of the Union army, with artillery demos and re-enactors playing Governor William Sprague and President Abraham Lincoln. Nathaniel Hawthorne: The Haunted Mind	Rhode Island Sat 9/3
While you're there, make sure to catch famous old-timey author Nathaniel Hawthorne, as re-enacted by Rob Velella, who 'returns from the dead to read some of his dark tales'. World War II Day at Battleship Cove	Southeast Mass Sat 9/3 - Sun 9/4
Re-enactments in New England usually focus on the 1700s. Here's one focused on World War II, and it takes place at the largest naval museum in the world, right here in Fall River. Connecticut River Valley Astronomers Conjunction	Western Mass Fri 8/26 - Sat 8/27
If I were in Western Mass, I think I'd go here, to one of the two big Massachusetts astronomer gatherings (The other is Aruna Hill). During the day, hear lectures and look safely at solar spots. Encampment of Revolutionary War Soldiers at Fort Taber	Southeast Mass Sun 8/28 - Mon 8/29

Plymouth Waterfront Festival	South Shore Sat 8/27
New England also has a ton of small town fairs and at first I was ready to assume that this event in Plymouth would be small & uninteresting. But it's actually rather large with a great diversity of activities including a carnival, live music, and the Mayflower ship replica. A great excuse to visit Plimoth Plantation, too! 10:30am-7pm. New England Boogie - Skydiving Festival	Northern Mass Wed 8/24 - Sun 8/28
Not enough action for you? This is the largest skydiving event in New England. Up to 300 attend. Bats and Night at the Museum	Boston Metro Wed 8/24
It's surprisingly fun to take on a museum as an evening activity. The Harvard Museum of Natural History host its final summer night, 5-8pm, where you pay half-price admission and get to see a documentary film and a lecturer talking about bats. Pi-Con Science Fiction Convention	Springfield Fri 8/26 - Sun 8/28
Or upgrade to alien spaceships! This smallish science fiction convention has the usual panels, workshops, guests, and costuming. You can play a Live Roleplaying Game or a videogame. Chinatown is having a celebration where dancing dragons go door to door, sort of a trick or treat experience, leaving the street literally covered with firework casings and lettuce leaves! The Perseids (August) and the Geminids (December) are the most reliable of the annual meteor showers. It's unfortunate that the full moon will drown own the view but you'll see plenty in the weeks before and after the peak on August 13. Get to a beach or a very large field with no streetlights to wash out the night sky. And here's a park event where an astronomer will help you find them! Broadmoor, 280 Eliot Street, Natick, MA.

A normal scavenger hunt is pretty tame -- mainly tourist trivia and they end up sending you to restaurants and retail stores where they get a commission. However, this Puzzle Hunt has no sponsors and is meant for people who love puzzles. Teams choose whether to solve "normal" or "hard" puzzles. Thu 8/4WorcesterDavis Farmland's Megamaze
You really need to visit Davis Megamaze, even though you can't go into the petting zoo and spray park unless you have kids in tow. This is opening weekend to walk through the 3 miles of pathways in a corn field shaped like a maze! Also a must-see is this huge re-enactment of 300 years of military history at my favorite re-enactment museum. I've seen it and it's HIGHLY recommended! Tue 8/2 - Wed 8/10Boston MetroI need a few friends to test my Android mobile app
As well as writing this blog, I am putting together a mobile application to show events! It's already working on the iPhone and BlackBerry, but I need a bunch of volunteers with Android platforms to test it, especially one with an HTC Evo. Please email johnny@eventsINSIDER.com and volunteer! It will take just a couple of minutes to play around with it and tell me whether it's working.
