Boston Events Insider: Johnny's List of Quirky Boston Events: 06/27/07

Hello everyone,

This is the scoop on wacky fun amazing New England adventures this week.

You want strange, we got it. "Strangers In Arms" is an annual re-enactment with 100+ re-enactors of both loyalist and rebel soldiers circa 1775. Military drill, firings, cooking, laundry, competitions, ending with General Washington's review of the troops. Hartwell Tavern, Lincoln, MA. http://www.nps.gov/mima/hartwell-tavern.htm

I found a new sandcastle sculpture festival! This one's at Yirrell Beach in Winthrop. It's a little known town immediately northeast of Boston which means you get amazing views of the airplanes which land directly overhead. And I do mean directly, flying at less than 100 feet. June 30th. Contest fee is $10, music, food, games like hula hoop and bubble gum contest. Also a mile swim competition for adults 16+, $20. Yirrell Beach, Shirley Street, Winthrop, MA. 617-846-8243. http://www.discoverwinthrop.com/events.asp

Another one is the Old Orchard Beach Parade & Sandcastle Sculpture Competition. This one sounds really well run, and I believe they have an amusement park there as well. Old Orchard Street at West Grand Avenue, Old Orchard Beach, ME, 207-934-9068. July 2-4. http://www.oldorchardbeachmaine.com/Activity.htm

There will be a nighttime hike called the Full Moon Hike, 9-10:30pm, at Bartholomew's Cobble way out in Sheffield, MA. June 30. You don't see a lot of evening outdoor events so I thought I'd list it. http://www.thetrustees.org/pages/27590fullmoonhike.cfm

Every Sunday at the Longfellow Historic Site in Cambridge, they have a program they call the Longfellow Summer Festival. It's music or poetry, participatory painting or drawing. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Every Sunday June-August, poetry & classical music. Most events 4-5pm but see website.

The Marblehead Summer Festival of Arts has 7 or 8 disparate events such as theater, arts, and even some street performances, June 30 - July 4. It includes a kite festival June 30! http://www.marbleheadfestival.org/events/events.html

Boston Harborfest is Jun 28 - Jul 4. It sounds pretty touristy and generic until you read their Web site which is quite interesting. This is not really one event (although there is a festival at City Hall Plaza), but rather every museum along the Freedom Trail has special events including concerts, tours, and reenactments. For example, re-enact the Boston Tea Party Thu June 28! And later that evening, meet a re-enactor of Paul Revere. Boston Chowderfest (not to be confused with Cape Cod Chowderfest which I advertised last week) is July 1. http://www.bostonharborfest.com

Holy pig squealing, Batman! Check out the Brockton Country Fair, Jun 28 - Jul 8. It's one of numerous agricultural faires, and one I haven't been to, but it's bound to contain sheep contests, rabbit contests, cow contests, dog contests, and apple pie baking contests. And sometimes you'll get gems like Robinson's Racing Pigs (not something I am making up). It's quite fun to visit, even if you've no plans to be a farmer. Historic Brockton Fairgrounds, RT. 123, Brockton, MA. 508-586-8000. Rt 24S to Exit 17A, Rt 123E (Belmont St) two miles on the right. http://www.brocktonfair.com

Is Cape Cod too far for you? Check out St. Peter's Fiesta, in Gloucester, MA, which is pronouned "GLAHOWSTAH". There will be a quiz on this later for you out-of-towners. This is a very serious Catholic holiday complete with Mass. It honors the patron saint of fishing. June 27 - July 1. http://www.stpetersfiesta.org/
There's an acting troupe called Pasttimes Entertainment that does interactive events, such as the Salem Pirate Faire. Instead of being stuck on a stage they mingle with guests, and they're doing a production that sounds sweet. It is The Scarecrow of Rumney Marsh, a swashbuckling adventure in the style of Zorro, set in 18th century Revere, MA. June 29-30, Revere City Hall, 281 Broadway, Revere, MA. Also Gloucester July 6-7.

Here's an item about which I've been unable to learn much. The USS Constitution Sunset Parade is some kind of parade involving a old warship from the Revolutionary War era. http://www.ussconstitution.navy.mil/EventCalendar.htm

Cirque du Soleil is performing in Boston at the TD Banknorth Garden, June 29 - July 1. You know, they're the acrobats who fling themselves around, dangling from these super long silk ribbons. http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/CirqueDuSoleil/en/showstickets/delirium/tours/tours
intro.htm

Ongoing events I've mentioned before: Riverdance, June 20 - July 8. http://www.citicenter.org. Indian Ink is a play by Tom Stoppard, to July 1, http://www.smallworldbigsky.com. Garrison Keillor at Tanglewood June 30. Re-enactments of Judy Garland, to July 1, http://www.andnowjudygarland.com, and Robert F. Kennedy, http://www.stuartstreetplayhouse.com

Outdoor movies: Movies by Moonlight at the Boston Harbor Hotel, Boston, MA. 617-439-7000. Goodbye Mr. Chips 6/29, http://www.bhh.com/pdf/movies

Finally, my little company has just launched its first product, a database of activity listings. Right now we are listing about 20,000 events which is the result of 3 weeks' labor since our software started working June 5. We should be able to grow it enormously in the next 3 weeks, and the next, and the next. Check it out at http://activity.basespace.net

Anybody have a rich uncle or aunt who likes to invest in small companies? We are starting fundraising now that we have this product out and a verbal "yes" from a customer prospect. Also we need suggestions for Web sites we should be gathering info from. :)

I'll do something special Monday for July 4th.

Boston Events Insider: Johnny's List of Quirky Boston Events: 06/22/07

Late breaking news,

I just visited the Minot Rose Garden which is a wonderful little park in Brookline with rose bushes. It's at the corner of St. Paul St at Browne St, Brookline, MA.

They're having an event on Sunday June 24 call the Minot Rose Garden stroll which is basically they'll have refreshments and classical guitar, it sounds very low key but good if you're local. 617 232-1965. http://www.coolidgecornerhub.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=572&Itemid=9

Boston Events Insider: Johnny's List of Quirky Boston Events: 06/20/07

Hey-o,

What's coming up in New England? Here it is!

It's Free Rides Day at the Boston Sailing Center. That's Jun 23, 1-6pm, Lewis Wharf, Atlantic Avenue, Boston, MA. 617-227-4198. Dress warm. No experience necessary. Large parties might wait an hour to get a ride but it's worth it. They server wine, soda, and water on their river boat while you're waiting. http://www.bostonharborwalk.com/events/

The weird event of the week is my own. I am running a live roleplaying game June 24, in Cambridge, based on Harry Potter and the Terry Pratchett Discworld series. It's a comedy game without a lot of rules but encouraging people to play magical pranks on each other and live out their power fantasies. Email me to get a copy of the blurb. At MIT.

Also check out a Bike Tour of Historic Somerville and Medford. I had no idea until now that Somerville and Medford were historic, except in the sense that any place any people have ever lived can be called "historic" by the visitor's bureau trying to attract tourism. But apparently I'm wrong. Bring your bike at 10am, to the parking lot of Somerville City Hall, 93 Highland Avenue. The tour goes to 1pm, and visits the Old Powder House, the Isaac Royall House, and the armories and historical museums. (617) 776-3938.

Also weird, the Sandcastle Festival at Hampton Beach, NH continues, to June 28. Ocean Boulevard, Hampton, NH. 603-926-8718. You can sign up for art lessons (sign up beforehand), or just enjoy the show. They'll have fireworks Saturday June 23 at 9:30 right after the awards ceremony http://www.hamptonbeach.org/sandcastle-competition.cfm

There is a bellydancing "showcase" which is a big annual dance performance and probably worth seeing. The Goddess Dancing Annual Showcase, June 22-23, Green Street Studios, 185 Green Street, Cambridge, MA. Bring money for flirting and tipping.

The weird just keeps coming. I've always wanted to check out the Western Mass Highland Games & Celtic Festival, which is June 23 rain or shine, 9am-6pm, way out west at Franklin County Fairgrounds, 89 Wisdom Way, Greenfield, MA. Bagpipes, fiddles, falconry, traditional games, dancing, pipe & drum, sounds quite interesting. Wear a kilt if you're not a lassie!

Jun 22-23 is Summer Revels at the newly re-opened Boston Children's Museum. It's not just a musical performance; they have woven their music into a loose tale of 19th century sailing New England. http://www.revels.org/

Every summer, there are a bunch of outdoors movies projected against buildings. Movies by Moonlight is at the Boston Harbor Hotel, Boston, MA. 617-439-7000. Coming is Roman Holiday 6/22 and Goodbye Mr. Chips 6/29.

And the WBZ Free Friday Flicks @ Hatch Shell begins Jun 22 and runs through Aug 31. That's on the esplanade, the park on the Charles River just south of the Arlington subway stop on the green line. This Friday, June 22, Night at the Museum. http://www.wbz.com/pages/591886.php?contentType=4&contentId=618840

Somebody is doing a show impersonating Judy Garland. You know, the Wizard of Oz gal. It looks interesting, check it out. "And Now Ladies and Gentlemen, Miss Judy Garland", unsure of times but runs through at least now to July 1, Lyric State Theatre, http://www.andnowjudygarland.com

Somebody ELSE is also doing an impersonation, this time of RFK. You know, JFK's less successful but probably smarter brother. RFK: A Portrait of Robert F. Kennedy, unclear when it goes to but it started Jun 6. Stuart Street Playhouse, Radisson Hotel, 200 Stuart St. Boston, MA. 800-447-7400. http://www.stuartstreetplayhouse.com

What happens with conservative Catholic culture smashes up against Bright Gay culture? It's the Provincetown Portuguese Festival, June 21-24, 508-487-3298 There will be a lot of dancing, singing, and even a life saving demonstration. Presumably they take someone who can't swim, push them off the pier, and then rescue them. The festival concludes with the "blessing of the fleet". http://www.provincetowntourismoffice.org

If you missed the New England Flower Show, consider checking out the Newport Flower Show at the Rosecliff mansion, June 22-24. I doubt it will be fantastic by itself, but there is so much to see in Newport! Do the cliffwalk, visit some of the several historic mansions open to the public. 548 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, RI, http://www.newportmansions.org/page4702.cfm

Speaking of Newport, I so so so want to do this one sometime! It's Murder Mystery at Beechwood Mansion. They stage an interactive performance where you pretend to be a wealthy elite of the 19th century. You interact with actors and try to solve the whodunnit. Thursdays starting June 28, to October 25. Also Matinees most Saturdays to September. They also have Big Band Music nights and a Speakeasy re-enactment night.

There's an event in Providence, RI called Waterfire. They have a small river that runs directly through the downtown area, and at night they light wood fires and make it a festival environment. Check out the Web to see what I'm talking about. It's really just an excuse to have something to do on the way back from Newport! The next one is June 23 at 8:30pm. http://www.waterfire.org/season-schedule/schedule

There are two different car festivals this weekend! First, "Extinct Car Day" and then "British Car Day", June 23-24, both at the Larz Anderson Museum. http://www.mot.org

I don't normally list benefits because they're too expensive. But this one looks interesting. Chefs in Shorts, Jun 22, World Trade Center East, 2 Seaport Lane, Boston, MA. Spend $60 and have the best chefs in the Boston area make a summer BBQ for you. It's a charity for the Greater Boston Food Bank. http://www.bostonusa.com/visitor/resdet.php?cat=Dining&catseqnum=13&type=event&seqnum=16969

Another sort of commercial food event that I can't resist, the Phantom Gourmet BBQ Party. Note, I went to one of these once and they were sold out, so buy those tix in advance. City Hall Plaza, One City Hall Plaza, Boston, MA. 617-931-2000. http://www.ticketmaster.com

Feel like doing some volunteer work? It's a great way to make new friends, spend some time outdoors, and help others. Single Volunteers takes the usually covert goal of smooching and makes it overt, http://www.svboston.org. Boston Cares, http://www.bostoncares.org. Big Bothers, I mean, um, Big Brothers Big Sisters will even give you free tickets to local events, all you have to do is bring a kid with you. https://aim.bbbs.org

Pleasant Valley Day is held June 24 at the Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary, which is run by the Massachusetts Audubon Society. It sounds like a mellow way to join in for the nature-themed walks, talks, or demonstrations. http://www.massaudubon.org/Nature
Connection/catalog.php?code=188-PV07SP1&sancName=&getresults=long

Serenity, the science fiction film, showing for fansters at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, June 23 at midnight. Brookline. http://www.coolidge.org

The Peabody Essex Museum has an orgami exhibit where you get to try making your own. A good excuse for visiting Salem, and it's a great museum in general. (I know, the Peabody Essex Museum isn't located in either Peabody or Essex.) http://www.pem.org

As I mentioned earlier, the Capitol Steps is a singing political parody group. If you love NPR, check out their show. June 23. http://www.maj.org/calmenu.html

Cape Cod Chowderfest is Jun 24. This one looks a little overly commerical, especially as it is taking place at a major venue, not a beach. Cape Cod Melody Tent, http://www.melodytent.org. So. You go, you eat clam chowder. Then what. You can make a whole festival out of that? Will they have a guy dressed up as Sammy the Dancing Chowder Clam? Does Sammy know what's in store for him in the kitchen tomorrow?

Not that you need an excuse to go to the MFA, but did you know they show films there? Yes, they do. Also, this summer, concerts. MFA Concerts in the Courtyard runs Jun 13 - Aug 22. 617-369-3189. Free Weds 4-9:45pm. Free guided tour included with admission. Film schedule at http://www.mfa.org/calendar/sub.asp?key=12&subkey=1 or http://www.mfa.org/concerts

The International Dance & Music Camp @ Plymouth is for serious world music folksy people. That is June 21-28. http://www.facone.org

Ongoing events I've mentioned before: Love's Labour's Lost to Jun 24, http://www.actorsshakespeareproject.org; The Great Park Pursuit to Jul 2, http://www.greatparkpursuit.org; Riverdance, June 20 - July 8. http://www.citicenter.org. Indian Ink is a play by Tom Stoppard, to July 1. Plaza Theatre, Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont Street, Boston MA. 617-933-8600. http://www.smallworldbigsky.com/

Heads up, Garrison Keillor, you know the guy from "A Prairie Home Companion", the movie and radio show, is speaking at Tanglewood June 30th. A good chance to head way out west.

OK that's enough frivolity for one week! Go do all these events and get back to me with some recommendations.

Boston Events Insider: Johnny's List of Quirky Boston Events: 06/14/07

Hi everyone,

This is the scoop on New England activities this week.

TONIGHT! Willie Nelson & family perform at the Cape Cod Melody Tent, 21 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA, 508-775-5630.

The weird event of the week is the Sandcastle Festival in Hampton Beach, NH. There's also one in Revere which I'll notify you of later. June 15-28. Awards night is the last Saturday, then fireworks. Competition is invitation only, looks great. They have fireworks at 9:30pm every Wednesday Jul-Aug, too. http://www.hamptonbeach.org

Ladies of the 80s Sing-A-Long, June 15-16, at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline, MA. Basically, you show up, you dance in the aisles, wear a costume, sing. It's like Rocky Horror Picture Show, but for normal people. http://www.coolidge.org/ladies80s

Also, I'm very excited about the Quechee Balloon Festival & Crafts Fair! I wish I were going. It is June 15-17, Main Green, Route 4, Quechee, VT. 800-295-5451. And you definitely want to sign up for balloon rides in advance. If you were curious, no, there are no balloon festivals close to Boston. Because balloons really cannot be steered, they don't want to run the risk of dropping in on a building. http://www.quechee.com/balloonfest.cfm

I'm not sure how weird this is. Have you ever heard of Car Talk, the radio show from NPR? Two MIT alumni laugh it up and have a surprisingly engaging show which is ostensibly about cars but is accessible to anyone. They are doing a fundraising and celebrating their 20th anniversary of being on the air. Car Talk 20th Anniversary, June 16, Cambridge. http://www.wbur.org

Sometimes the best festivals are the ones where you get to experience another culture entirely. For example, there is a local Greek festival June 15-17, at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 14 Magazine Street, Cambridge. I believe that's Friday 5-11pm, Sat 12-11pm, Sun 5-10pm. Go, it's like a tiny sliver of visiting Greece. http://www.yasas.com/greek-festivals.asp

Also a German Festival that's not in Ocktober, a nice treat. It's Sommerfest, June 16-17, in Walpole, MA. It's the summer version of the German Oktoberfest. Basically, you drink a ton of beer, but in June not October. Ethnic food and polka music. These people are serious, their New England club has been around for over a century. I'm sure it will be very much like visiting the Fatherland. http://www.germanclub.org

Going to the other end of the size spectrum, two apparently disconnected river festivals are this weekend. Let's start with the Cambridge River Festival is June 16, Cambridge, MA. 617-349-4380. 12pm-6pm. Rain or shine. Along Memorial Drive b/w Harvard & Central Squares. Music, crafts, dance, poetry, kids stuff, and they're shutting off the street so that's totally sticking it to the Man! So don't bother driving through Cambridge that day. Way to build a dysfunctional Utopia! Never mind. http://www.ci.cambridge.ma.us/~CAC/

As a totally separate event, and don't think they aren't competing for tourist dollars and nobody cares, Riverfest is a festival in Concord area. Boat rides, sculpture walk, river walk, music, canoe trek, scavenger hunt, nature walks. It looks far more interesting than the Cambridge event, but -- it's not really a festival in one location. It is more like 30 loosely connected events in differing locations. So see the Web schedule. 617-223-5225. June 16-17. http://www.sudbury-assabet-concord.org

The Special Olympics Summer Games are June 15-17. Aren't you special? Well, if not how about signing up as a volunteer, or just stop by to cheer them on. I volunteered once and it was fun, helped to personalize in my mind a part of humanity I'd never interacted with. Cambridge, MA. http://www.specialolympicsma.org/events/index.asp?page=calendar

I saw yet another charity walk last week, one that I hadn't listed. Here's yet another. Boston Prostate Cancer Walk, Boston Common, Boston, MA. http://www.bostonpcwalk.org

Three re-enactments are happening this week! First, Janeane Garofalo is re-enacting her time as a celebrity comedienne, in a show with Patton Oswalt. Berklee Performance Center, Boston, MA. Jun 17. http://www.berkleebpc.com

More to the point, there is a Henry David Thoreau re-enactment on June 17, at the Concord Museum. Concord, MA. 11am, 12pm, 1pm, free with museum admission. Meet Thoreau and learn about his two-week hiking trip in 1839. http://www.concordmuseum.org

While you're in Concord, they are doing a Town Meeting Re-Enactment from 1774. Basically olde-timey commoners get together and talk about British rule and independence. I bet that's interesting! June 17, at the North Bridge benches in Concord, MA. 1:30pm and then again at 3pm. It's also happening July 15.

Also weird, the Caffeine Dream and Ice Cream Sundae Afternoon, June 15 at MIT, at the Stata Lobby. Cambridge, MA. Sadly, it is not free. 3pm, $6.50/pp (incl. one sundae, one coffee, and one bottled water). Hmm, and potentially you needed to buy in advance... not sure what they were thinking, selling advance tickets to what is essentially a drop-by kind of event. http://web.mit.edu/mitac

In terms of performances and other less weird things, Indian Ink is a play by Tom Stoppard, the fellow behind Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and the screenplay for Shakespeare In Love. June 15 - July 1. Plaza Theatre, Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont Street, Boston MA. 617-933-8600. http://www.smallworldbigsky.com/

It's flag day in Quincy!!! Yay!!

No seriously, what is Flag Day? Sounds like a placeholder holiday they haven't named after anyone yet.

Anyway, Quincy Flag Day Parade and Celebration, June 16, Quincy, MA. They're having a parade and fireworks, it might be engaging. http://ci.quincy.ma.us/progflagday.asp

Billy Connolly is a comedian performing at Harvard. I've heard him and he's fantastic. Jun 12-16. http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/calendar/arts.html

The Provincetown International Film Festival is June 13-17. I don't normally approve of film festivals (too sedate, and I'm allowed to have an opinion, start your own blog) but if it gets you to go to Cape Cod, great! I haven't been in ages and would love to hear, besides the beach, what there is to do on Cape Cod. http://www.ptownfilmfest.org

Have you heard of Riverdance? You know, the Irish stepdancing thing with Michael Flatley (or without, I heard he was a prima donna and quit). Anyway! It is coming to Boston. June 20 - July 8. http://www.citicenter.org/

Ongoing events I've mentioned before: Love's Labour's Lost to Jun 24, http://www.actorsshakespeareproject.org; Present Laughter, to Jun 17, http://www.huntingtontheatre.org; The Great Park Pursuit to Jul 2, http://www.greatparkpursuit.org; South End Open Market / SoWa Open Market, Sundays to Oct 28, http://southendopenmarket.com/

Heads up, if you want to sign up for the International Dance & Music Camp @ Plymouth, now would be good because it is June 21-28. http://www.facone.org

Also, I am running a live roleplaying game June 24, in Cambridge, based on Harry Potter and the Terry Pratchett Discworld series. Email me to get a copy of the blurb.

Hope everyone is well. If you enjoy this blog I could use a motivational email today! My tiny company is launching its new product, which by the way is an engine for world domination, um, I mean, gathering activities from Web sites.

Boston Events Insider: Johnny's List of Quirky Boston Events: 06/07/07

Hey-o,

Here's this week's list in fun activities.

TONIGHT! Jun 7. Catch the "best of" the The Boston 48 Hour Film Project. This was a project in which film directors must shoot and edit a short film in only two days. They have compiled the best into a one night show at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, Brookline, MA. http://www.48hourfilm.com/boston/

TODAY ONLY! This is the last day for the Scooper Bowl, the world's largest ice cream festival. Today Jun 7, Thu 11:30-6. http://www.scooperbowl.org

The weird event of the week is the US Air Guitar Championships! That is tomorrow, June 8, at Harper's Ferry in Boston. http://www.usairguitar.com/tickets.html

Runner-up would be the Boston Area Sport Kite Show. I've went a couple of years ago to this event and it's a great opportunity to see stunt kiting. Really quite more impressive than it sounds. June 9-10, 9am-4pm. Millenium Park, 1205 VFW Pkwy, West Roxbury, MA. field "C". Near Charles Park Rd. Address is approximate. http://www.seasidekites.com/local-events/info_10.html

Plenty of strangeness. I caught this one on a drive-by last year and I wish I'd stopped. It's the Boston Dragon Boat Festival, 9-5pm. Yes, they have racing, but also music and dance performances, dragon drancing, Japanese drumming, arts and crafts, martial arts. Lovely! Charles River, near JFK Street and Memorial Drive, Cambridge, MA. 617-426-6500 x78. http://www.bostondragonboat.org

Also weird, the Bunker Hill Day Parade and Re-enactment. June 10. 12:30-2:30pm, Charlestown, MA. Begins at the intersection of Vine and Bunker Hill St. from the Tobin Bridge end of Bunker Hill St. Continues to Sullivan Sq. (Up BH St.) Proceeds onto Main St. After circling Monument Sq., Parade concludes on Winthrop St. by the Charlestown Militia Training Field. OK that is just the parade, but I swear there is supposed to be a re-enactment too. For info call 617-242-5652. Yes, it really is June 10, I am aware that Bunker Hill Day is actually June 17. http://www.nps.gov/bost/planyourvisit/events.htm

As part of Pride Week, alt.newengland is having a town common day, June 11. Amherst Town Common, Amherst, MA. Info tables, picnicking , an all day drum circle, and more. http://www.sismoon.com/pvrf.htm

This weekend is the Lowell Comedy Festival, and it looks surprisingly good! June 8-11, http://www.lowellcomedyfestival.com

The Newport International Film Festival is Jun 5-10, http://www.newportfilmfestival.com. A great excuse to visit Newport, RI.

This weekend is also the Coolidge Corner Arts Festival, June 9, Beacon Street at Harvard Street, Brookline. 617.739.9066. 10am-6pm. Basically, a lot of art vendors set up on the sidewalk. It's fun to browse if you are in the area.

Speaking of commercial events disguised as festivals, The next JP First Thursday is tonight, June 7. Basically it is a gallery experience, a chance to walk around town and catch some art. Centre & South Streets,Jamaica Plain, MA. 6-8pm. May be live music, poetry readings.

Probably the least commercial, because it involves a real museum and a great park experience, is the DeCordova Museum's Art in the Park Festival. I've been twice and it's highly recommended! The DeCordova is a modern sculpture museum which is surrounded with a park. The park itself is dotted with sculptures so it's a good place for a nice stroll or a picnic lunch. But on June 10, it will also have over 100 local artists vending their products. Um, I mean showcasing their art! 51 Sandy Pond Road, Lincoln, MA. 781/259-8355. 10am-5pm. http://www.decordova.org

Last week I recommended the Mendon Drive-In but didn't give the website. It is Mendon Drive-In Theater, Mendon, MA, 35 Milford Street, Mendon, MA. 508 473-4958. http://www.mendondrivein.com

Boston Pride Week continues, with a celebration June 9th, and several other events, to June 10. http://www.bostonpride.org

Ongoing events I've mentioned before: Love's Labour's Lost to Jun 24, http://www.actorsshakespeareproject.org; Present Laughter, to Jun 17, http://www.huntingtontheatre.org; Light in the Piazza to Jun 9, http://www.broadwayinboston.com; String Beings (Snappy Dance Theatre) to Jun 10, http://www.worldmusic.org/

Too busy today for wisecracks. Have fun, see you next week!
