I forgot to mention that if you do zip out to Springfield's Bright Nights, make sure to visit the Forest Park Zoo beforehand (which is open during school holidays, which I think means this week) or some of the museums. All that stuff closes at 4pm, so arrive early and make a whole day of it.
I saw the Dr. Seuss garden in Springfield and it's about 20 statues, cool but definitely not a draw if you are not already in Springfield. The science museum was pretty good, and you get to crash asteroids into the Earth via a simulation.
